THE CHRONOTOPE OF DARKNESS: UKRAINIAN TRANSLATION OF IGNACY CHIGER MEMOIRS FRAGMENT

Shifting the countdown of the occupation darkness from 1941 to 1939 and returning the text to its original beginning, the Ukrainian translation seeks to "decommunize" the story of the rescue of a family of Lviv Jews, depriving it of the Soviet narrative. In this authentic form, even if it is partial, Higer's story in the Ukrainian translation will acquire its inherent complexity and multifacetedness, in contrast to the two-dimensional and black-and-white, as if illuminated film, stories of Belyaev. In the conditions of a new war and occupation, the story of Higer from Lviv will turn out to be unexpectedly closer and more understandable to the Ukrainian reader.
