Abstract

The following documents, most of which are being published for the first time, in their totality create a more or less complete and coherent picture of what happened in the Kalinindorf district in the fall of 1941, reveal the mechanism of mass murders of Jews, as well as the degree of participation in these murders of elders and policemen from among the local people. In 1944–1947 and in 1952, at least 37 such persons were identified by the Soviet security authorities and sentenced: some to the death penalty, some to various terms of hard labor.
None of the members of Sonderkommando 10a, who executed the shootings of Jews, were brought to justice for these murders, and the Munich prosecutor's office, which at one time investigated the crimes committed by this team, had no information about the actions in the area.
